OUR PATTERSON FAMILY

Family History

The earliest branch of the Patterson family, that we have traced, originated in the Isle of Whithorn, in Scotland. Our Great Grandfather and his wife, Sarah Patterson, moved to Wallasey in Cheshire in yhe early 1890s with their only son David; John Patterson was lost at sea off the coast of South America, somewhere around Cape Horn, in 1893, on his way to Valparaiso. David Patterson married Lilly King and had three sons, Ronald (Ron), Derek and John. Ron Patterson married Hilda Rogers and had two sons, Tony and Andrew. Tony and his wife Jill live in Camberley (Surrey, England) and have two daughters Anne and Linda. Anne lives in Puerto Natales Chile, and Linda lives in Sunninghill (Surrey, England).

Loch Urr

SV LOCH URR was built by McCulloch & Paterson Co, Glasgow and owned by Sproat D. & James (Loch Fleet), Liverpool. Loch Urr left Tyne for Valparaiso on 21st of May 1893 with a cargo of coal. The last contact wss by the SS TAMAR on 5th of July at lat. 05°S long. 33°W and she was never seen /been heard of again. At noon of the 17th October 1893 one of her lifeboats waw picked up, floating bottom up, by the GLENMARK at lat. 50° 28' S, long. 55° 10' W. A small piece of teak with the name *LOCH URR) was also picked up on Beaver Island, West Falklands on 28th December 1893. It was be assumed that LOCH URR was lost between Cape Horn and Staten Island.
